Who leads the way
Rex Newton
Founder & Director
Rex is a full-time firefighter with experience in law enforcement and emergency medical services. He is passionate about being a husband and father and loves spending time doing outdoor activities such as canoeing, backpacking, and mountaineering. Rex has seen the negative effects of the fatherless epidemic firsthand — through his own life and through his career in public service. His mission is to mentor boys into manhood, inspire intentional relationships between fathers and their children, and spread the call of James 1:27.
True North
Compass Outdoors is a discipleship ministry. We exist to come alongside parents, local churches, and mentors in raising young men to follow Jesus Christ. Our ministry is guided by the following biblical convictions.
The Scriptures
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God and is the final authority for faith and practice.
One God in Three Persons
We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as the substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will one day return in glory.
Salvation by Grace
We believe that all people are created in the image of God but are separated from Him because of sin. Salvation is a gift of God's grace, received by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, apart from works.
Discipleship
We believe that every believer is called to repentance, a life of discipleship, and continual growth in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Baptism
We believe baptism is for those who have personally placed their faith in Jesus Christ and is to be practiced by immersion as a public testimony of faith.
Resurrection & Eternity
We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost. Those who trust in Christ will enjoy eternal life with God, while those who reject Him will face eternal separation from Him.
The Great Commission
Our mission is rooted in the Great Commandment—to love God and love others—and the Great Commission—to make disciples of all nations, raising up young men who faithfully follow Christ and lead lives that honor Him.
